Why and how meat it marketed towards men

Writer, Martin LaMonica, writes on TheConversation.com, a vegan magazine, "Certainly insofar as they [young boys] are encouraged to identify with a version of masculinity that depends on power over women and over other animals." Here, LaMonica cements the idea that men are encouraged to be dominate over women using meat. Not only is this because it is the center of the meal, as previously mentioned, but it is also has sexual undertones.

The image on the left is just one of the many examples presented by artist, Carol J Adams in her exploration of women being compared to food objects. She says, "Adverts are never only promoting products, but also promoting dominant cultural meanings." Why are we being advertised a sexy chicken? Well, we are being marketed a WOMAN. She is asking to be eaten, literally. Further, the way the chicken-woman is posing directly appeals to men's fantasies with sex. Women are so often compared to food in the way where they want to be taken and eaten. In this way, women are being objectified into just a piece of meat and men are able to  strip them of power. These harmful stereotypes only further establish our heteronormative culture, by transforming women in meat to eat.
